Louisiana finished 49th in a ranking of the healthiest states, one spot up from its last-place finish in 2006. The America's Health Ranking Report, which was released by United Health Foundation, says the state is hurt by a number of factors, including a high obesity rate, a high infant mortality rate, a large uninsured population and low immunization. Strengths for Louisiana include access to prenatal care and a low prevalence of binge drinking. Vermont was ranked as the healthiest state, while Mississippi finished 50th.
